This statue is unique. The artist, Bishop Denning, wanted her to have angel wings. A mystery to the leadership, and historians from the Diocese, there is no written account for Bishop Denning to imagine Mary in this way.
Inspired by this image, her name, history, and our Pastor's interpretation of our Mission, a group of donors had these two custom made chasubles produced - one for our Pastor, and one for our Parish.
In a speech honoring the Very Rev. Dowd by Mr. Juan Rodriguez, he said,"[H]e has been the instrument in urging us to form and strengthen our Mission, by looking to her Name, and her Image, seen in the Parish and Rectory. Fr. Brian has given us a deep love for Queen of Angels as our Patron Mother. Her Image and Name became our Refuge to Christ, and the center of our Mission to the people of Sunnyside."
Mr. Rodriguez ended the speech with these words for all present at the gathering, and for all parishioners, "May these vestments remind us, and our future parishioners of our Mission. A reminder…. That WE ARE QUEEN OF ANGELS."
We want to thank all of the donors, and Chiarelli's Church Supplies & Religious Goods for making this a reality.
The Chasuble will be worn for the first time at the Vigil Saturday Mass on August 14th at the 5PM Mass
